Date: August 14, 2003 From: John Nevels II Subject: "The History behind the 'Missing Angels Bill - Stillborn Birth Certificates' Online Petition" As many of you already know, on February 18, 2003, I created an 'online petition' at PetitionOnline.com. I wanted legislators across the United States (and particularly in those states that didn't have MISSing Angels Legislation) to know that a change desperately needed to be made. My hope continues to be that as the MISSing Angels Legislation truly begins to 'take root', the people who are lobbying for it can show their legislators that support for it does exist - and in vast numbers. As of today, 3,471 people have viewed and signed the petition. I've come to realize that, to some, the petition seems critical and harsh. In the letter that I wrote to my State Representative, I included the web-address of the online petition along with the following: "I hope you will allow me some ‘latitude’ if you feel that the language on the petition seems hostile towards legislators in general. Anger has been identified as one of the many stages of grief; please be assured that I’m learning to better deal with it. Thanks again."
